Tummy Tuck in Tampa
Tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a common procedure performed at Marcadis Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa. The goal of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is to remove excess skin and fatty tissue, tighten abdominal skin and muscles to allow a flatter, more youthful appearing abdomen.
Significant changes to the abdomen area such as pregnancy or significant weight loss can bring some unwanted changes to a body. The skin may become loose, possibly with stretch marks, and the abdominal muscles, also known as rectus abdominus, may become stretched out of position. Exercise and healthy eating will not usually improve these problems. With a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Dr. Marcadis can remove excess skin and tighten the muscles to improve the abdominal contour. Stretch marks or scars can be removed totally or lessened.

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an elective plastic surgery procedure that is done under a light general anesthesia. With a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Dr. Marcadis will place an incision on the lower abdomen and around the umbilicus. The length of the incision will vary depending on the amount of removal. When the incision is placed, Dr. Marcadis will elevate the skin and tighten the muscles beneath and suture the incisions. Depending on the complexity of the case, a drain might be place.
This procedure is performed in our Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited surgical facility. The procedure takes about 3 hours to perform depending on the complexity of the case. Anesthesia is provided by board certified anesthesiologists with many years of experience and on staff at major local hospitals.
Recovery after a tummy tuck/ abdominoplasty:
Immediately after surgery, surgical dressings will be placed around the abdominal incision area. Stitches will dissolve in 10-14 days. You may resume all your normal non-strenuous activities as soon as discomfort allows. Most of our patients resume to their work about 3-5 days post surgery. Most swelling will gradually dissipate over 6 weeks. We will continue to see you during your follow-up until healing is assured. All recovery expectations will be discussed during your initial consultation and at your pre-operative appointment.
